Turns out the Spanish royal family weren’t the only royals at the World Cup finals this past weekend in New Jersey: Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and his brother-in-law, Crown Prince Daniel, were in the stands.

Svensk Damtidning reported (translated from Swedish) “In the middle of their vacation, they left Öland, boarded a plane across the Atlantic and landed in New Jersey, USA.” They stayed under-the-radar and were not pictured at MetLife Stadium, so it’s unclear where they sat. It’s unclear, too, who they were cheering for, though Prince Carl Philip’s son, Prince Alexander, was spotted in a Team Spain hat at a concert at Solliden Sessions, so perhaps the royals were rooting for Spain over Argentina.

It was a private trip by Prince Daniel, 52, who is married to Crown Princess Victoria, and Prince Carl Philip, 47, the only son of of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, as the visit was not listed on the Swedish royal family’s official programs. The final was Prince Daniel’s second time going to the World Cup this summer; he also brought his son, Prince Oscar, to Sweden’s round of 32 match against France.

Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip’s outing to the finals, Svensk Damtidning’s editor-in-chief Johan T. Lindvall said (translated), “really shows what an enormous passion Prince Daniel has for football. He is not content with following the matches on TV, but is happy to travel far to experience the greatest moments on site. Also, being able to share that experience with Prince Carl Philip, who has the same great interest, makes the trip extra special.”

The Swedish royal family typically spends their summer vacations on the island of Öland, Sweden, where they stay at Solliden Palace. On July 14, just two days after the World Cup finals, both Daniel and Carl Philip were back at the Palace to celebrate Crown Princess Victoria’s 49th birthday.
